Skin Picking and Hair Pulling

(Excoriation and Trichotillomania)

What is Skin Picking (Excoriation Disorder) and Hair Pulling (Trichotillomania)?

Despite these being different conditions they have some similar features. You may find yourself having intense urges to do this behaviour and over time it can become a habit where you do it without realising. Although it gives a brief sense of relief or satisfaction, it can leave you feeling bad about it afterwards.

The causes will be a combination of different factors but typically begins at a young age and often develops as a way of coping with stressful situations or difficult thoughts and feelings. Over time it could lead to avoiding things you enjoy in case others notice.

We can work together to reach a clear understanding of the problem and enable you to feel more confident in dealing with it. We will develop new ways of coping with stress so this no longer holds you back.
